To reach the location, you can walk or take a cycle ride (distance: 4 km). Top it off with a specially curated picnic lunch. 

A walk with a view. That’s how you’ll begin your day at Lockhart Estate. Take in the fascinating views and diverse terrains. Witness a picture-perfect sunrise from a scenic viewpoint. While you go on the walk, be regale you with stories of Lockhart Bungalow and its rich history.  

Top it off with a piping hot cup of tea. It’s a morning walk you’ll remember for ages.

If you start your day with tea, you’ll now see how a cup of tea comes together.  

Pay a visit to the Lockhart tea factory, the first tea factory constructed by the British in 1936. Located 2 km away from Lockhart bungalow, it's one of the oldest tea manufacturing facilities in India.    

A guide will take you through the entire tea leaf processing journey - from weighing to packaging and finally tasting. Top off your visit with a cup of freshly brewed tea from Harrisons Malayalam Limited. 

This trek offers picturesque views of diverse landscapes - rugged volcanic rock faces, dense forests, lush grasslands, and tea plantations and begins from old Munnar or Lockhart Gap. 

If weather permits, you can catch a glimpse of the rare Nilgiri Tahr, an endangered species of mountain goat, and also spot a few of our endemic birds and plants. 

Whether you’re an amateur birder or a pro, spotting a rare species is something to cherish. This tour is tailor-made for birdwatchers and common sightings include Palani Chilappan, Black and Orange Flycatcher, Nilgiri Flycatcher, Malabar Whistling Thrush, and more. You can also spot butterflies like the Red Disc Bush Brown, Palni Fritillary, and others. 

Munnar is a haven for herping in South India and certain species are endemic to the region. With the guidance of our expert local naturalist, you can spot endangered species such as the Shrub Frog, as well as Jayaram's Bush Frog, Beddome’s Bush Frog, Kalakkad Gliding Frog, and the Large-scaled Pit Viper.

Note: Herping activities are limited to designated areas for the safety and well-being of the creatures. 

A 20-minute drive from Lockhart Bungalow, this trail is adorned with rocky slopes on one side and tea plantations on the other. Pass through the tranquil Shola forests, and on a clear day catch a glimpse of Anamudi, South India's loftiest peak.
