Résidence de l’Evêché is a historic landmark in the heart of Pondicherry. Situated in the French Quarter, it takes you back in time to the colonial era when the Archbishop’s house was located on the street, earning the name, Rue de l’Evêché. The villa has existed since the 1790s and has been home to several owners, one of them being the prominent Goubert family, after whom the popular Goubert Market is named.

On your visit, you can view the central force of Auroville, Matrimandir and get a glimpse of the township’s unique mélange of cultures.

CYCLE RICKSHAW RIDES
Enjoy an old-fashioned trip across Pondicherry by hitching a cycle rickshaw and take a ride through the town’s colonial legacy. If you’re lucky, the friendly rickshaw drivers will regale you with stories and interesting trivia.

When you step out for a leisure walk, you will find the streets are lined with pastel homes that charm you as you take a short walk down to the Promenade Beach. Or indulge in Pondicherry’s bygone era - Old Lighthouse, Aurobindo Ashram, Auroville and the Sacred Heart Basilica among others – all a stone’s throw away.
